This viral video, along with flyers designed by MediaConnect.ie, was used to promote and build interest both in the race itself and a forthcoming documentary on the Gannon Cup boat race. The video received a lot of media publicity both online and off. It was featured and shared on Social Media, the Irish Times website, on Le Cool Dublin and even received a humorous video meme response from Trinity College, Dublin, gaining a lot of attention.
The Gannon Cup boat race started in 1947, takes place every year on the river Liffey, Dublin, between UCD & Trinity College. In 2011 the race fell on St.Patrick's Day and was a big attraction as part of the Dublin St. Patrick's Day celebrations. MediaConnect.ie worked as part of the documentary team filming the race and used the festival atmosphere as an opportunity to involve the spectators by encouraging the public to record the race themselves, upload their footage to MediaConnect and follow on Facebook to be kept up to date on the documentary progress.
